A community functions best when everyone collaborates and respects one another including each member’s culture. Community members can contribute to the common good more effectively if they all work together.
Allah says in the Quran “and that there might grow out of you a community [of people] who invite unto all that is good, and enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong: and it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state!” 3:104
In order for a community to be strong and prosperous, it is vital that each individual increase their acts of righteousness and work harmoniously with one another. However, our community faces various challenges. Among these challenges is a lack of unity, cooperation, mutual respect, commitment, and involvement. The presence of these ideals is the cornerstones of building a sound community. In addition, support and service programs for most sectors of our community are severely lacking. These programs are crucial to ensuring a healthy and lively community. There are many in our community and abroad who lack the basic necessities, such as food, shelter, clothing, and proper health services. In addition, due to apathy, our elders are also left to fend for themselves or are placed in the care of nursing homes.
Because even the most simple forms of necessary programs are missing from our community, MY DEEN will spend a significant amount of time in creating and implementing programs to assist those that are in need and to try to make our community whole. By providing programs aimed at improving the dilemmas our community is facing, we would be taking the first step towards making a difference.
MY DEEN, in the upcoming years will be addressing the following issues: poverty, homelessness, racism, drug abuse, alcohol addiction, elderly care, and other problems within our communities.
